Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)

Nutrition One is proud to support the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) as a dedicated caterer. We specialize in providing nutritious meals to SFSP sites, working alongside program sponsors to ensure that children receive healthy meals throughout the summer. This partnership is a vital part of our mission: Fighting Food Insecurity One Meal At A Time.

The Summer Food Service Program is a federally-funded, state-administered program that helps children in low-income areas get the nutrition they need to learn, play, and grow throughout the summer months when they are out of school. Funded by the USDA and administered at the state level by the Arizona Department of Education, SFSP provides free, nutritious meals to children 18 and younger at approved SFSP sites.

Sponsors

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) offers an incredible opportunity for various organizations to make a real impact by ensuring children in their communities receive healthy, nutritious meals during the summer. The program is open to a variety of potential sponsors who can host meal sites or work with meal providers like Nutrition One to distribute meals.

Eligible Sponsors Include

  • Schools and School Districts: Public or private schools that are already involved in meal programs can extend their support into the summer by becoming SFSP sponsors.
  • Non-Profit Organizations: Community groups, faith-based organizations, and other non-profits that serve low-income children can become sponsors. Organizations must be able to manage food service effectively and meet USDA standards.
  • Local Government Agencies: City parks and recreation departments, libraries, and other government agencies often serve as ideal sponsors for summer meals, particularly in low-income areas.
  • Camps and Summer Programs: Camps that provide programs to low-income children can participate as either open sites or closed enrolled sites, ensuring that all kids in their care receive proper nutrition.
  • Community Centers: Centers located in areas with a high need can host meal sites, providing children with nutritious meals as part of their summer activities.
