SFSP Sun Meals

Don't Miss the Window - CEP Applications Open April 15

Spring is one of the busiest times of year for Program Operators and it also happens to be when one of the most valuable opportunities in school nutrition opens up. The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) application window for the 26/27 SY opens April 15th and closes June 30th, 2026.

CEP allows eligible schools to serve free breakfast and lunch to all enrolled students – no household applications or income verification. It means less administrative burden and more kids fed.

Here’s what to have ready: your CNP Direct Certification data should reflect enrolled students as of April 1, 2026. Running your direct certification match on or around that date is key to having accurate data for your application.

Summer Is Closer Than You Think. Let's Talk SFSP

If SFSP planning isn’t on your radar yet, now is the time to change that. The Summer Food Service Program is a highly impactful program and getting organized early makes all the difference.

SFSP ensures that kids 18 and younger in low-income areas continue to receive free, nutritious meals when school is out of session.

The good news for sponsors: there is no cost to participate. Reimbursement from USDA covers food, labor, and administrative expenses for every qualifying meal served.

For SFAs already operating summer programs, now is the time to confirm your sites, review your meal patterns, and connect with Nutrition One to ensure your application and logistics are in order. For schools considering SFSP for the first time, reach out – we make the process straightforward.

Nutrition One doesn’t disappear in June. Our partnership with your school runs year-round, and summer feeding is a big part of that mission.
